Cousin Antonija
Dušanka contacted her cousin and so the arrangements were made I would meet her at my hotel. Lidija spoke English very well and I was able to learn about Tonija's family. The little surprises of meeting a new person was my favorite time.
Damijana, my translator
I found it difficult to learn about family on my last visit due to the language. This trip I got smart and asked Damijana to translate for me. She was a very supportive and accommodating friend. She is posed here with her Dad. The second photo is of an elderberry bush. Dušanka gave me a jar of marmalade made from these berries.
An old friend
Janez Košir came to join us and to say hello to all of the travelers he met two years ago. He took Tony for a tour of the disappearing Lake and the area. I stayed at the house and looked at Photos. Dušanka has a great knowledge of the family. We posed in front of the church Johana Katern attended before she came to America.
Family
Dušanka shared her photo album with me and I was able to learn about family. Franc cooked us a fabulous meal in this big electric skillet and Dušanka made a apple layer dessert
Dušanka at Cerknica
Tony drove me to Cerknica to meet with the Žizek family. They live in the house Grandma Novak was born in. Gaj, pronounced Guy had lots in common with Tony and they are third cousins. As we parked the car I took a picture of the house across the street. I have a picture of it from long ago and it has not changed.
Our journey back up the hill
When our tour was finished we saw a beautiful water fall and was able to catch a ride on an Elevator. The ride was much appreciated as we were in a very deep valley.
Škocjan Cave
The first photo is the finish of our tour. This cave has a huge underground canyon with a river running through it. We walked up and down three hundred steps to see the impressive open spaces. Not a lot of beauty but the difference in the two caves needs to be seen. This cave has been honored the UNESCO award because of the natural wet land.
